Albert M. Schmitt, Principal Engineer (PE) and company founder
Al is an alumnus of Southern Illinois University, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984. His civil engineering career started at Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc., in McHenry, Ill. (named one of the top 100 civil engineering firms in the U.S. by Civil Engineering magazine) where he worked for over six years, achieving the position of project manager/team leader in charge of subdivision design and development. While at Smith, he also represented the Village of Spring Grove as civil engineer. After leaving Smith, Al spent a year with Rooney Consultants in Lakemoor, Ill., working as a project manager before departing to found Schmitt Engineering.

Nick Mathey, (PE) Project Manager
Nick joined Schmitt Engineering in 1998, working as a drafter and field crew technician. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2003 from Southern Illinois University, Nick achieved the position of project/design engineer. He holds a Master’s degree in project management from the Keller Graduate School of Management.

Nick designs residential and commercial subdivisions as well as site plans. He focuses on the fine details of stormwater management, along with sewer and water designs. As part of this process he obtains EPA, IHPA and endangered species permits. He works closely with the municipalities and developers associated with the plans to ensure quality control and timely delivery of drawings.

Dana DuBois, Senior AutoCAD Drafter
A recent graduate from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor’s degree in business management, Dana also possesses many technical certificates in AutoCAD drafting and customization. He has been with Schmitt Engineering since 2003 and brings 20 years of design and drafting experience to the company, including stints with Western Electric and Magnecraft Electric Company.

Dana heads up the AutoCAD department and is responsible for AutoCAD standardization and customization, fieldwork, designing septic systems and assisting with subdivision design and commercial site design.

Janice Schmitt, (CMA) Office Manager
A graduate from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Janice joined the company in 2003. She handles all of the accounting and office management responsibilities for Schmitt Engineering
